FRANCESCO TOTTI SET TO PLAY FINAL SEASON IN SERIE A

AS Roma legend Francesco Totti is set to play his final season in the Serie A with AS Roma after playing at the club for over two decades.

He recently signed a one year deal with the club after agreeing to end his long spanning career all in one club. The 39-year old who is widely respected by the fans scored .

There were doubts over his future at the club since he was rarely engaged by coach Luciano Spalletti, aside their rifts. The forward made only 13 league appearances all season but scored four goals in their final six matches of the season, all as a substitute.

Having played all his life at his boyhood club, Totti said:
"I really wanted this contract; it represents the realisation of my dream. I always wanted to end my career having only worn one shirt - the Roma one."

The Italy international joined AS Roma in 1989 at the age of 12 and made his debut in 1993 as a 16-year-old. He helped them to the Serie A victory in 2001 when he was only 21 years, making him the youngest captain in Serie A history.

The president of the club, Jim Pallotta, commented on his agreeing to end his long career at the club. He said:
“It's quite fitting that on the anniversary of the day AS Roma was founded; Francesco Totti has signed a new playing contract. He's earned this contract and now we want Francesco's final season on the pitch to be the start of a new era of success for AS Roma.”

Totti would be 40 years when he retires, making him one of the oldest players still playing active football.
