Francesco Totti Reveals Love for Representing Roma

Francesco Totti says that playing for Roma may have meant lesser trophies in his cabinet, but he is just extremely glad that he has been able to represent his city for such a long time.

The 39-year-old is one of the decorated one-club players in world football. He will soon be celebrating his 40th birthday while Roma fans also prepared to give him one final sendoff. This will beTotti’s final season as a professional as he has announced his retirement after the season. Regarded as one of the finest Italian football in recent times,Totti has had only a handful of titles with Roma.

For a player who has made more than 700 appearances for the club in all competitions,Totti has managed only five trophies with the club. The only league title came during the 2000-01 season while Roma were most successful in the Coppa Italia and the Supercopa Italiana winning both these titles twice in the history. However, the biggest disappointment at the club has to be the numerous runners-up medals accumulated in the last decade. Roma have finished second best in the league on an astonishing eight times. For the lack of domestic success,Totti was rewarded with the ultimate prize of the World Cup title in 2006.

“I'm not an icon, just a Roman citizen in love with this place. If I'd left, I'd probably have more winners' medals to my name now and I'd certainly have been involved in more Champions League semifinals and finals. But I feel a huge sense of pride at having worn the Roma jersey for so many years and knowing I've given my all for the club. Daniele [De Rossi] and I won the World Cup with Italy as Roma players and we've won a few other trophies here,” said Totti.
